My detailed review:
Kurukshetra, the movie, is like a 1 GB file compressed into a 100 mb zip file. Most of the present-day youth who suck up to Western trash like Game of Thrones don't have an idea of the gigantic and glorious story of Mahabharata which can put shit like GOT to shame. Therefore, for our ignorant youth, it's hard to follow the story told in this film because of the complexity of characters and too many story arcs that have been merged into this three hour long movie, except for few outdated folks like me who grew up listening to stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata in our childhood from our grandparents.
On the overall it turns out to be a rather half baked mythological drama based on India's most celebrated epic, Mahabharata. Darshan as Suyodhana turned Dhuryodhana is extraordinary in what goes down as his career best performance. Ravishankar is equally brilliant in the role of Shakuni. Other actors don't get much scope for performance, except Arjun Sarja as Karna who tries hard to make the best of limited space he gets. Ravichandran as Krishna is stereotypical. Sonu Sood as Arjuna is not effective except in the action sequences. Ambareesh's last performance as Bheeshma doesn't leave a lasting impression as he looks tired throughout. Less said about Nikhil Kumarswamy the better.
Considering the unlimited scope that Mahabharata has, the portrayal of events AND characters could have been much better. The second half is tiring. CGI, and battle sequences are good at places, but not up to the mark in the rest. Number of episodes forcefully inserted could have been cut down and fewer important aspects of the battle of Kurukshetra could have been emphasized on, thereby lot more space and scope for conveying several iconic sequences more effectively could have been ensured.
Casting of Draupadi was disappointing. The character deserved to be portrayed by a more sensuous woman. The infamous Vastraharana sequence was also not up to the mark, being too dramatic and artificial, probably to be family-friendly. In present-day age of realistic cinema, it should have been more intense and raw as it happened at the time of Mahabharata.
Duryodhana doesn't get much screen time in second half until climax, which is another disappointment. There was scope for some effective scenes of him reacting to the deaths of Dronacharya, Bheeshma, and other bigwigs of Kuru-clan. Iconic scenes like Karna tearing apart his Kavacha-Kundala from his body and his sentimental scenes with Kunti were also not effective when by that time, the screenplay is already too stretched and tiring.
The worst part of the movie is the Shikhandi sequence. The way Shikhandi has been portrayed like a street level transgender, is an insult to the legacy of Shikhandi and Bheeshma. The character had a legacy and a purpose of it's own along with Bheeshma.
An average film that deserved better writing, direction, and a producer with a better vision rather than just money. But it can be given a watch for the ensemble and few good performances.
Same to same opinion

Super... Aamir Khan actually had an ambitious idea of investing into this dream project of Mahabharata series for several years... But after the debacle of Thugs, he has put it on hold... Even Rajamouli has plans.
