Tulu film 'Chali Polilu' completes 500 days
Tulu film ‘Chali Polilu,’ produced under the banner of Jayakirana Films, completed 500 days on Sunday. The movie, which hit the screens in the coastal district on October 31, 2014, is currently being screened at PVR Cinemas.
Chali Polilu is one of the longest running regional films in PVR Cinemas while the other movies screened for the longest time were Kannada movies—Mungaru Male, screened for 375 days and Duniya, screened for 300 days, said producer Prakash Pandeshwar.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said people have been still visitng the theatre to watch the movie.
“It is not that I am keeping the film running for such a long. The exhibitor is screening it as he is getting revenue,” he said. It has also been screened twice and thrice in some theatres in Mangaluru, Moodbidri and Puttur. At PVR Cinemas, the movie has been viewed by 33,000 people so far, he added.
PVR Cinemas representative Deepak Gangadhar said, “We started the screening of the movie with 262-seat screen and later shifted to a smaller 139-seater screen. At present, the movie is being screened in the 79-seater screen. The average occupancy in a day is 54.31 per cent.”
He said that the movie is screened purely on the basis of revenue that is being generated. The revenue from Chali Polilu has been good so far, he added.
Actor Devadas Kapikad, who plays the lead role in the movie, said that people want entertainment in Tulu movies and the movie has been able to strike a chord with the audience. The film also features Bhojraj Vamanjoor, Navin D Padil and Arvind Bolar. Prakash Pandeshwar’s upcoming movie ‘Dabak Daba Aisa’ will hit the screen shortly.
